Teleporting on this Thursday

I am not sure why but today I feel like:
It's not a bad way to feel.

Diamond Rock Camping

This past weekend my family and I went up to the white mountains for a couple days of roughin' it. Dad, Ty and Diane had already been there for 7 days by the time Nick, Danny and I arrived. They are super hard core!
Here is the group- minus Danny, he was the brilliant artist behind this shot
Danny and I at in the 'watch tower'. This is where the rangers keep a look out for forest fires. It had amazing views and smelled of grilled cheese.
Elk!
Deer- if you have seen the movie without a paddle...
don't these deer remind you of the growling deer?
Big Horn Butts.
Drive me Nuts.
More big horn sheep.
All in all it was a really nice getaway.

Back To School

Well I’ve finally done it. I’m officially a Northern Arizona University Lumber Jack!

After three years of procrastinating I have gone back to school to get my Masters Degree. I can’t lie, it has been incredibly hard to get back into the swing of things… and I’ve only been on this ride for two weeks! But do you know what that means? Only 66 more weeks until I’m done :)

This little journey of mine did start out a little er, embarrassing. On my first day as an NAU Grad Student (I feel ridiculously pretentious calling myself a Grad Student and will stop hereafter), I showed up at St. Mary’s Catholic High School about ten minutes before class was scheduled to begin. As I walked through the small campus I suddenly realized that I had not only forgotten to write down what class I was actually there for, but also failed to look at the room number said class was being held in. How could this happen!? I had gone through my list so thoroughly: Pen, Check. Highlighter, Check. Binder, Check. College Ruled Paper, Check. Snacks, Check (it is a five hour class!). Optimistic and Eager Attitude, Double Check! Oh well, I thought to myself, how many NAU classes can there be on a high school campus during the summer?

With a renewed sense of 'everything is going to be GREAT', I made my way down the hallway toward the classroom where our orientation was held. As I walked down this corridor I immediately knew I was in the right place, I could feel it in my bones! And more importantly, there were other adults walking into classrooms with backpacks and trapper keepers, well maybe not trapper keepers. I continued my way down the hall peering into each room to assess the crowd. The first room was filled with burly men- clearly not my class. The next one was an equal mix of gals and guys- also not my place. Then I saw it, a room full of chatty women. BINGO! I quietly asked the nearest person what class this was… I couldn’t have everyone thinking I didn’t know where I was. She nicely responded BME631. Sweet! I knew I was taking that class this semester, although a little part of me was saying “Becca, this isn’t right” I immediately put the kibosh on that. This is where I belonged, among the chatty women.

Shortly after I got situated in a chair on the opposite side of the room I noticed that everyone was in conversations with each other, it seemed like they were all good ol’ friends. I felt a little like an outcast but was sure that I would be invited into a conversation soon. Another five minutes passed and I was still an outcast, a leper in exile. Finally, the instructor walked in and all of the chatty women shut their chatty mouths, Thank God. He immediately passed out the syllabus, instructed us to create a circle with our desks, and asked everyone to introduce themselves. The first woman began “As you all know, I’m Mary, and am so excited that this is our last semester!” ……

DAMN! I am in the wrong class, and there are 15 chatty desks seperating me from the door. I was paralyzed as it all became clear, BME631 was the internet class I was enrolled in!
As the women went around and re-introduced themselves to the others, who were in fact their good ol’ friends, I just sat there quietly trying to plan an escape. You see, this program is designed so that each group goes through the entire program together. Eventually the circle reached me, the outsider- “Hi I’m Becca, and this is embarrassing, but um....er.....I am in the wrong class”. Giggles…silence... then finally help. I was told there was another class down the hall with the brand new cohort.

30 seconds later, 15 minutes late, and bright as a tomato I finally found my rightful class.

New Trend

I don't know about you, but I've been noticing an interesting trend these last few months...
The return of the Stache!
Lately I've found myself day dreaming about cowboys, Charlie Chaplin, Milk, Burt Reynolds, and well the 70's in general.
I think I'm okay with this.

Ohoh I'm also okay with other things having mustaches such as nuts
(I am seriously thinking about putting this in my living room...no really)
Herm....
It's a Key-Stache! Almost like a Keytar, but better.
Here is another person I may or may not day dream about...
Clay Zavada is Redicurad!
(it is a new word meaning-ridiculously rad. Just embrace it)
I'm not down with the return of the Fashion mullet, seeing all of the 80's gear in my fav stores makes me a little nauseated, and Buttrock can stay dead in the grave.
But the Stache comeback? This is one trend I can get behind!
Now.... how can I convince the boy to do the same?
PS all the Stache gear is from Esty.

The Best Lesson....

This morning I was perusing the net and came across this.....

I love this book, and its timeless lesson. Isn't it funny how one picture from a children's book can put things in perspective?- For some reason I needed this today.

Oh and this picture was accompanied by a great blog entry: http://www.thisisreverb.com/2009/05/matrix.html. Read It.

Two lessons in one! I liked the reminder- especially since I find myself with this problem, which is a very gross problem to have.

What to do with Lemons

I LOVE Lemons

I think they're rad, look super cheery, and are one of the most useful ingredients. Lucky for this lemon lovin gal I get bags and bags of them each spring from my parents, and this year Danny's rockin parents.

Thanks to Charlie, Danny's dad, not one of these little guys will go to waste this year!

He freezes the lemon juice into ice cubes.

I thought this was a clever idea, and know it will come in so handy when I need lemon juice in non-citrus season (I am not down with spending $3 on a lemon from some far away land)

Also, I checked out the conversion and 1 ice cube = 1 table spoon. How easy is that!?

Can I get a woot woot for fresh lemonade all year round!?

Happy May Day

Let me start out with a confession, I have had no clue what Mayday was until about 5 minutes ago... luckily for me Wikipedia did :)

"Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject, so you know you are getting the best possible information. "- Micheal Scott

So according to this superior source May Day is celebrated by making May baskets, which are usually filled with flowers or treats and left at someones doorstep. The basket giver would ring the bell and run away. The person receiving the basket would try to catch the fleeing giver. If they caught the person, a kiss was to be exchanged.

People also celebrate this lovely day by creating Maypoles.

Didn't you dream of Maypoles as a kid? I did.

On another note I did a google image search for "Happy May Day" and this popped up. hehe Happy May Day to you and yours!
